Blondes defeat Brunettes with 4th Quarter Heroics - Photography
As they entered the fourth quarter trailing by two scores things weren't looking so hot for the Blondes in their Alzheimer's Association fundraising game against the Brunettes on Saturday afternoon at Hammond School in Columbia, SC. Turnovers thwarted multiple promising drives during the third quarter, Cocky had left and the temperature and humidity made it feel like June in South Carolina. As the final quarter began they were faced with a 23-13 deficit.
After cutting the lead to just three points with less than a minute remaining the Blondes reached the red zone with a time management strategy based on "GO!" The 'Nettes reeled rom the Blitzkrieg-like attack as the ball floated toward the end zone, bounced off a defender and landed in the arms of South Carolina alumni Stephanie Finnell (above). In dramatic fashion the Blondes claimed victory over their hated rivals. Finnell celebrated with the two handed spike. "The spike was definitely spur of the moment. As much as I tried to get our coaches to let us practice touchdown dances, we never did," said Finnell (whose favorite Gamecock is Conor Shaw), "I was surprised - it all happened so quickly."
