Photos: Opening Night at the SC State Fair
Cameron’s favorite amusement ride at the SC State Fair is the Musik Express, a Matterhorn/Flying Bob style ride with the added bonus of blasting pop/dance hits. He likes the Haunted Mansion and bumper cars. He is not interested in the doughnut burger because it is too small. Cameron isn't a fan of the ferris wheel, or anything else that leaves the ground.
Turkey legs? Yes.
Ron Diamond’s Hypnosis Magic Show? Hell yes.
Buttered popcorn and Fiske French Fries? Yes.
Beloved by the local music and the service industry communities, Cameron is a member of Columbia’s homeless population and every time I see him he asks me when The Fair is coming back and if we can go. Yesterday and finally, the answer to his favorite question was “today" and "yes."
After more than four hours of fair time and the addition of a small stuffed dolphin, we walked back to the car around 10 p.m. when Cameron pointed over towards Williams Brice and asked, “You ever been to a game in there?”
October is Fundraising month
Thanks to everyone on social media who helped me find Cameron yesterday, especially Stephen and Mel. And thanks much to Heather for her help. You have until October 22 to visit the fair with your friends.
