Photos: Elmwood knows how to Halloween
Children laughing in every direction. Music coming from three. A shriek from a frightened skeleton wearing a tutu and an approaching barrage of little feet on the asphalt as Superman chases a Ninja Turtle. A random crash and more distant shrieks. It’s like the soundtrack to every horror movie that has a Halloween night scene. Except more.
“Grab his hand! Take your brother with you!” A mom tells one of her offspring, whose sibling is frightened by spooky live theatre in a front yard in the Elmwood neighborhood on Halloween night in Columbia, SC. He grabs his hand and off they go.
A drunk zombie redneck stands in canoe with a severed limb hanging from a garden tool. Wearing overalls and holding a jug of shine in the other hand he rocks back and forth, the metal clanging against earth as Adam Cullum sits nearby playing seasonal bayou tunes on the accordion. Drunk zombie redneck is almost indiscernible in his vocal ramblings, but definitely creepy. Watching from the second floor balcony, a zombie bride and groom pace around. Sitting on specially made dock on their front steps, a rotation of characters hands out treats to those brave enough to wander close enough.
