Overnight shooting in Columbia's Vista at closing time
After talking with law enforcement outside of The Empire Supper Club on Lady St. in the Vista early Saturday morning, a man walked under crime scene tape and over to the car that had just pulled into the nearby bank parking lot. A woman got out and they embraced as police officers aimed flashlights at yellow a-frame evidence markers around the corner on Park St. near The Art Bar. On the other side of Gervais St., near The Oyster Bar, another crime scene was taped off.
“I was out at Social after 2 [a.m.] at this point because I was djing on the back patio and I heard shots ringing out in quick succession and it sounded like anywhere between 10 and 15," says DJ Siji Ade, who then exchanged looks with club staff, "We were all leaning out the back patio because that was the closest view to the street and the direction the sound came from.”
“There were people running from that street and down back into the parking lot, and a girl tripped and had fallen and no one was really helping her up. But when she got back up she was walking back toward the street and then more pops started to go off and it was another 10-15 shots fired. I went to go help her and pushed her behind cover.” says Ade, "Then people kept saying, 'someone got shot in the face, Oh my God, a woman got shot in the face."

Praying for the victims of this senseless tragedy. Having recently moved to the Columbia area, this truly saddens me. Have always felt safe down at The Vista. Sad day for Columbia.
