“Shit happens mate,” explained Dan Cooper when asked about the last stretch of his journey yesterday on the rivers in Columbia, SC. As part of a Hash House Harriers flotilla, one of Cooper’s friends found himself with an empty beer as they approached the Gervais St. bridge. Sandwiched between a flattop and a string of tubes, Cooper was thrust in an epic struggle through the small rapids.

"I was coming on down the river with all my mates. And a friend of mine, he needed a beer. And so I had to go back and get a beer for him off the other float. So I jumped off and I was trying to get a beer and then we hit some rocks and I got a few scratches on my back.”

As described by Cooper, the Hashers are “a drinking club with a running problem. We drink some beers and we run quite a bit of distance. Sometimes we float."
