Gin Blossom's singer: "Take a picture of that girl's legs"Rosewood Crawfish Festival - Columbia, SC - May 5, 2012 I'm pretty sure it was mid-song, during an instrumental interlude. Robin Wilson, the Gin Blossom's singer trotted across to my side of the stage and caught my attention. My first thought- he was about to bitch me out for some strange 'modern rock' photographer/musician boundary that I unknowingly overstepped. "Take a picture of that girl's legs."
I glance around. It's an eighty-something degree day and Cinco de Mayo in a major southern university city. "Which ones?" "In the black dress there." He points over my shoulder. "OK, sure..." He runs back to the mic and I'm off to do his bidding. But we'll get back to that later. Here's the rest of the day.
I think American Aquarium's BJ Barham is is making faces at me. But he actually may just have to poop. These guys have always toured relentlessly hard. After the set they packed upped and were off to Myrtle Beach for another show later that night. From Raleigh, NC these guys are flag bearers for hard working, fun-loving, whiskey drinkin', asphalt grindin' American Southern rock bands.
This dude had the right idea, taking in the show for free from outside the festival fence in the valuable shade from a small tree.
BJ is a big NC State fan, so talking shit about the Wolfpack is completely encouraged if you run into BJ at a bar.
This is my buddy J-Reg and our friend Janelle. He's a really big Gin Blossoms fan and used a metaphor with a wet dream and a fourteen year-old boy to describe his day. Then he was like, "that was awesome- let's go get wasted." More South Carolina photo stories at Sodacitizen.com
This is Mat and Page. Page is not happy after seeing the animals caged up in the petting zoo. Page likes red wine and tambourines. Mat is Coma Cinema and Elvis Depressedly.
Robin Wilson of the Gin Blossoms traded a tambourine for a Mich Ultra during the beginning of the band's set. Then he found a cup of tequila and wished everyone a happy "Cinco de Drunko."
Bassist Bill Leen questions why Wilson put a bottle of tequila in front of him. I don't think Leen is a big fan of the tequila.
It's the 2012 Rosewood Crawfish Festival ya'll!
That's the girl in the black dress.
This is my friend Missy and and some dude I know who probably doesn't want his name on the internet. We'll just call him "Lance Commander." He likes beer, women and Costa Rica.
