Photos: State Fair Traditions with Cameron
Standing next to the Matterhorn, my friend Cameron asks, “Sean, when will the fair be back?”
And so begins, and ends most every conversation I have with Cameron. Consequently, when I woke him up yesterday from a nap at College Grounds Coffee and asked, “Are you ready to go to the fair?” - it was pretty awesome.
Cameron normally hangs out at Cool Beans and College Grounds Coffee, so if you want to make his day, swing by on the way to the fair, he gets in free with his cane. He doesn’t like any rides that resemble roller coasters or anything that goes in the air. He likes the Matterhorn style rides, bumper cars and performances of any kind. He was really into the Extreme Illusions and Escapes show, which we missed most of, so I’m sure he’d love to catch that. Cameron’s foot hurts and he is walking pretty slow, so he’d probably be perfectly happy if you dropped him off at the performance tents with some food and drink, did your thing, and scooped him up on the way out.
If you don’t know Cameron, who has been homeless much of his adult life, I vouch for him being an excellent dude.
