New Favorite Sport to Photograph: Competitive Cheer

"It's like if there was a sport where coaches competed for best locker room talks, except it's twenty-some teenage girls instead of one old dude. Then they toss each other in the air and make really intense mosh pit faces while dancing in interesting patterns. And bonus! There are mascots," I explained to a male friend at New Brookland following Saturday night's SC State championships in competitive cheer in Greenville. I struggled to explain why I enjoyed shooting the high school sport while not sounding like a pervert. The action - like hamsters on speed equipped with a mind boggling array of emotions.

There's an on deck area like the circle in baseball, except the teams are hidden by a curtain. I watched one girl cry for four minutes straight - up until her team ran out onto the performance floor. It kind of reminds me of shooting championship youth baseball. Just a bit more intense. More images from this event can be found at www.GoFlashWin.com - Just find your school.

The Dutch Fork Silver Foxes react following their routine at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, SC. About an hour later the judges crowned the team 2014 class 4A champions. Chapin continued their dominance of the 3A division. My entire gallery from the state championships can be found at www.GoFlashWin.com
