"It's like if there was a sport where coaches competed for best locker room talks, except it's twenty-some teenage girls instead of one old dude. Then they toss each other in the air and make really intense mosh pit faces while dancing in interesting patterns. And bonus! There are mascots," I explained to a male friend at New Brookland following Saturday night's SC State championships in competitive cheer in Greenville. I struggled to explain why I enjoyed shooting the high school sport while not sounding like a pervert. The action - like hamsters on speed equipped with a mind boggling array of emotions.

There's an on deck area like the circle in baseball, except the teams are hidden by a curtain. I watched one girl cry for four minutes straight - up until her team ran out onto the performance floor.
