"MOM! MOM! MOM!"

I could hear the chant behind me funneling through the chaos of St. Patrick's Day in Five Points, Columbia SC. I turned around to catch the end of the fleeting moment as the surrounding crowd roared in applause.

I've spent the last 10 days traveling around the the southern end of the country taking photos of people partying and the annual St. Patrick's Day Festival in Five Points was icing on the cake. After twenty hours in the back seat of a hatchback on a return trip from SXSW in Austin and after taking a much needed shower I jumped on my bicycle and headed down to Five Points to catch one of my favorite bands, Minus the Bear. As bonus I got to see many of my favorite people in the Soda City.

Minus the Bear has influenced and inspired me more than any other band over the last decade. I've titled my first book of photography "Two Star Hotel" using a line from "Absinthe Party at the Fly Honey Warehouse" and you'll find references to the band in many facets of my creative life, including this post about it snowing in the Soda City.
