Live Music Survives in West Columbia Despite City Ban on Posters

In West Columbia, SC posters are against the law. Land of the free unless you are a business like a live music venue wanting to advertise your upcoming concerts in your own windows. Makes sense to me. I think it's a $500 penalty to the local mafia or 30 days in a dungeon. Despite the efforts of local politicians, their lemming like code enforcers and the poster crackdown almost a year ago, live music manages to survive on State Street.

Not that anyone thought for a second that posters were still necessary for a live music scene. It is 2014.

Last evening Vista West was bustling with activity. New Brookland Tavern hosted the three band touring package of Dads (Piscataway, NJ), Tigers Jaw (Scranton, PA) and Touche Amore (Los Angeles) which was followed up with a free after show at the Red Door featuring Coma Cinema, Boyfriend Material, Stefanie Bannister, and Dylan Kittrell.

In typical bemoaning stage banter fashion, Mat Cothran (Coma Cinema - below) poked fun at the area's lack of support for the arts - which of course led me to think about how sad it is that our leaders use fines and imprisonment to fight the war on posters.

This is what happens on your birthday.

I haven't worn a helmet inside a bar for at least six months.
