Photos: Kinetic Derby Day - West Columbia, SC
"Earlier today, we had kind of a breakdown just off the start line with the "Savage Lung." We learned that Kent Sutcliffe is going to be absolutely just fine," says an announcer at the first Kinetic Derby Day in West Columbia Saturday afternoon on Meeting St., “It's the only spectacular wreck we had a little bit earlier today.” It happened when Sutcliffe ate some asphalt on a face plant in front of the Brookland United Methodist Church just after his pushers were letting go at the starting chicken.
“Fantastic. Awesome,” says thirteen year-old Keewan Lopez (above) from Branchville, SC, “celebrating Kinetic energy by pushing these derby cars down the hill and to see which one is going to be faster than others. Mostly, the ones that are like low rider and wheels spread out. The missile ones.”
