Welcome to the Soda City: Jan 16-21 - Columbia, SC

I found out about last Wednesday night's show at Cult Classic after running into a band from Miami outside of Drip Coffee in Five Points. I biked to the space early and chilled on a tailgate with my buddy Jason, who runs the garage. He's what you would call a vet of the Columbia punk rock scene and we talked about how he has always wanted to have a place for bands to play. I love this place.

Mel Washington at the New Brookland Tavern: Mel has an album coming out in the very near future. It's called "Houses" and over the last couple months I been photographing the album art and I encourage you to check out the song "Come Back."

Just down the street from New Brookland, the Saluda and Broad Rivers meet to form the Congaree and on Sunday their waters swelled up over portions of the West Columbia Riverwalk. But obviously not enough to scare away some adventuring souls.

I've been working at the music club for ten years now and it seems as though Ben Walker has been around for all of them and we've been singing along to "Murderers" the whole time. Some of you may recall National Mustache Day, the Silent Anthem, Lost at Sea Media or maybe the Boiler Room venue in the Vista. His wife makes wonderful baked goods and we've played hoops in Jackson, Mississippi. Ben fronts Rejectioneers.
