Homecoming 2013 - Toro y Moi at the CMA

When I was a regular contributing photographer at the State Newspaper, I made it a habit to stop by the music editor's desk whenever I had seen a new local band of note. I still remember stopping by Otis Taylor's almost ten years ago to tell him about one band in particular. "What's up O'Seaneassay?" As he would say (and still does).

"You need to check out The Heist and the Accomplice. It's got the kids from the Taxi Chaps."

It's been fun to watch Chaz and his friends go from the Taxi Chaps, to Heist and to what Toro y Moi is now. On Friday, the Soda City welcomed it's beloved chillwave pioneers back home at the Columbia Museum of Art.
