Clowney Catches TD Pass - South Carolina Spring Game Photos
Jadeveon "Hammer of the Gods" Clowney was standing next to me on the sideline in sneakers and shorts when the quarterback launched what I thought was a horrendously overthrown ball. I thought, who the hell is that to? And then Clowney was on the field catching the pass.
He caught it - but it wasn't pretty.
The star defensive end and early Heisman candidate fell over during his only play of the 2013 South Carolina spring game. The referees then "missed" the call, Clowney scored a touchdown and threw the ball into the west stands. It was like watching the Harlem Globetrotters. I couldn't stop laughing at coach Spurrier's annual "pass-to-someone-coming-off-the-sideline" play.
At halftime and while surrounded by over 100 former Gamecock lettermen, coach Spurrier described Marcus Lattimore as the greatest player to ever put on a South Carolina uniform. His former teammates erupted around him and Marcus responded in his typical demeanor, with a humble grin and a small chuckle.
Camden native Patrick Davis performed a free concert across from the stadium before kickoff. The purveyor of the brilliantly written, "Big Ole Cock," Davis couldn't have been a better match for the day's festivities.
Despite the 35,000+ in attendance for the game, the hometeam sideline was drowned out by hordes of fans attempting to nab Clowney's attention - who sat on the bench when he wasn't sneaking onto the field to participate in Spurrier's Globetrotter spring ballgame.
"CLOWNEY! CLOWNEY! CLOWNEY!"
"HEY CLEMSON KILLER!" shouted a middle-aged man with an angry rural accent.
The kids went on relentlessly. "CLOWNEY! CLOWNEY! CLOWNEY! CLOWNEY! .... CLOWNEY! Their preteen voices cracked occasionally and I felt embarrassed in a Kevin Arnold and The Wonder Years sorta way. For both the fans and for Clowney.

I really enjoyed viewing your post of the spring game. Looks like you had plenty of opportunities to capture the personality and athletic
abilities of many of the players. It was also exciting to see Marcus there with that million dollar smile. I have no doubt he will be a shining star in the NFL. And of course, the Man, Mr. Clowney. What else can you say about this guy that hasn't already been said?
This should be a great year for the Gamecocks, and all the fans are primed to see amazing things unfold before their eyes.
Hey dude, you have my number, please contact me so we can talk. Thanks again for this post, real classy stuff.
