Winter Weather Stalls Soda City - Photos

For the second time in two weeks, The South has been sideswiped by a nefarious winter storm. Yesterday in Columbia, the capital of South Carolina collected several inches of sleet, snow and freezing rain. What I like to call the Mid-Atlantic Buffet. The population here has neither the equipment nor the knowledge to deal with this type of weather and outside of a handful of businesses in each neighborhood most spots shut down and most people stayed locked up inside their homes.

What is photojournalism?

I was able to cross the Congaree River system by foot via the Jarvis Klapman Boulevard Bridge (SC 12), which has no shoulder or sidewalk and under normal traffic conditions might be considered suicidal. Here's to all the folks who threw on a coat and scarf and a pair of winter boots or gloves they didn't have. To those who left the warmth of their homes to shovel sidewalks with garden hoes and rakes. To those who were reminded why they make ice scrapers for your car and to those who found empty parking lots for donut parties. To everyone who busted their ass yesterday.
