Eight hours east of Austin, Texas - we skirt along the 40 mile wide Pontchartrain lake just north of New Orleans in a Toyota Matrix. The sunlight ricochets across the water, frequently interrupted by the haunted trees of the Mississippi River Basin. My buds Greg, Sandra, Zac and I are headed to SXSW at the "Live Music Capital of the World" and we've spent the last 36 hours pit-stopping in the Big Easy.

New Orleans is one dirty ass city. On Sunday afternoons, tornadoes of humans rumble through the Seventh Ward and Treme and "gangs" of four-wheelers ride up and down the sidewalks. It's chaotic, it's creepy and it's beautiful. There are more drive-thru daiquiri joints than Subways. Yes, I said drive-thru daiquiri joints. When we arrived on Saturday morning at sunrise we headed straight for doughnuts at Cafe Du Monde near Jackson Square. Since then, we've wandered the city eating mostly breakfast. We went to some "Keeping it Real Zulu Social Aid Pleasure" event just before hitting the road again and I'll share those photos tomorrow. See ya in Austin.
