Before yesterday I hadn’t been to a car and bike show concert combination since I was the de facto “manager” of a rap group in Columbia at the turn of the century. It was in the parking lot of an abandoned strip mall in Sumter and I had taken on that role as a way to fulfill my internship requirements for my media arts degree at USC. My responsibilities were probably a small percentage of an actual manager, but I introduced them to riders and got to drink cognac in limos.

It was definitely an unpaid internship.

Since my days at the record store my knowledge of the genre has evaporated and Jeezy, Plies and Rick Ross are near foreign entities. I’d heard of a guy named Young Jeezy. Was that the same guy? All I know about Rick Ross is that he has a beard and snagged his name from the famous drug kingpin. And I’m not even sure how to pronounce “Plies.”
